ZAFICO

Overview

The Zanzibar Fisheries Company (ZAFICO) LTD was established by the Government of Zanzibar and became operational in October 2017. It is comprised of a Board of Directors and headed by a Managing Director. ZAFICO aims to transform the fisheries sector within Zanzibar, attain profit and offer food security for the country and Tanzania as a whole. The fisheries industry in Zanzibar is currently dominated by artisanal fisheries taking place in near shore seas.

Anchovy/ Dagaa

Zanzibar Fisheries Company (ZAFICO) has identified a viable business opportunuty in supplying a range of processed dagaa products of a higher and consistent quality

Fishing

An 18-meter-longline fishing vessel purchased in Sri-Lanka.

Processing Plant

In August 2019 ZAFICO secured a 0.29 Ha plot located within the parameters of the Malindi Port as leased by the Ministry of Lands, Housing, Water and Energy through its Commission of Lands.

Aquaculture

Following the aquaculture feasibility study undertaken in collaboration with a Norwegian company, ZAFICO has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with two partners to engage in cage farming business.

Zanzibar Fisheries Company (ZAFICO) signed a contract for construction of another 18 meters long line vessel with Hairu Naval Craft and Engineering Company Limited from Sri-Lanka at Agriculure House-Darajani.
